An Autumn wedding at Clock Barn

Autumn in the countryside – it’s absolutely beautiful and here at Clock Barn, we love this season. We also love autumn weddings and everything that goes with them. From cosy details and seasonal flowers to warming wedding menus, there’s so much to enjoy at this time of year. Here are some of our favourite ideas for sensational seasonal celebrations.

Ideas for your autumn wedding

Let’s start with your wedding outfits and at this time of year, you need to be prepared for all eventualities. For brides and bridesmaids, the best option is to have a wrap to hand so that if the weather is cooler, you can keep warm if you still want to get outside. We also loving seeing brides wearing chunky knits or even personalised leather jackets. Go for something that really fits with the style of your day and with your personality. Grooms, think about adding a waistcoat and remember that tweed looks great at this time of year. Finally, from a practical point of view, keeping an umbrella or two on standby is probably a good idea too!

Autumn wedding decorations are absolutely stunning and you can, of course, choose anything that works with your theme. If you want to take your inspiration from the season, think about including lots of natural details. Seasonal blooms, fruits, feathers and even autumnal favourites such as leaves, pine cones, acorns and, of course, pumpkins! You could make confetti from leaves, line your aisle with pumpkins and create tablecentres with all sorts of autumnal touches. This is also a great time of year to get creative with your wedding favours. You could go for a seasonal favourite such as toffee apples or other edible options that use the best of the season. Homemade jams and chutneys are always really popular with guests or go for something a little different – make your own flavoured oils or put together packs of spices so that guests can make their own mulled ciders at home.

There are also lots of ways that you can bring the season into your decorations to create a warm and cosy atmosphere for your guests. We definitely recommend twinkling fairylights and baskets of blankets for guests are another lovely touch. Make place cards from fir cones or leaves, turn little pumpkins into a creative table plan or use large pumpkins for some creative wedding signage.

Autumn wedding food and photos

A fantastic autumn wedding definitely needs fantastic food and drink. Think about creating an indulgent harvest feast for your guests. Start your wedding reception with warming drinks and canapes – we love hearty favourites such like fish and chips and shepherd’s pie. Moving on to your wedding breakfast, how about a family-style service? Here, beautifully cooked meats are brought to the table and one of your guests takes on the job of carving and serving everyone. There are delicious side dishes to go with the meats and then what could be better than dessert with lashing of custard? A perfect autumn feast for everyone!
